Honeymooning with Friends

From the time we are old enough to know what a honeymoon is, we are told that they are for two people. Two newlyweds fly off to some exotic locale and spend a marvelous week together under the sun.

But what they don't tell us in those early, idealized descriptions is that other couples will be there too. Lots of other couples! In fact, many of the top travel agencies offer honeymoon packages.

What does this mean for the average couple? Well, it means that you may encounter other newlyweds on your honeymoon. Sometimes this can be an enjoyable experience. After all, you have something in common. You were all recently married. However, at other times it can be exhausting, because different newlyweds want different things.

Some couples don't want to meet new people on their honeymoon. They simply want to rest and relax. Perhaps they threw a big, elaborate wedding and they desperately need to recharge their batteries. But other couples are at the opposite extreme. They are full of energy and conversation and they want to meet other newlyweds on their honeymoon. And since many resorts that offer all inclusive packages schedule meals at certain times, newlyweds often end up sitting next to one another.

This can make for awkward exchanges between couples that just want some rest and relaxation and others who want to make friends. Since most folks hate to be rude, they typically engage in nice, polite conversation and, before they know it, they have been roped into having lunch or going on an island tours or participating in a number of activities when all they really want to do is relax, together. Unfortunately, some couples just can't take a hint.

Other married couples have the opposite problem. They may travel to a secluded resort and be bored by the second day. Many of these resorts instruct their guests not to leave the grounds, which means that they may run out of things to do rather quickly. At that point, many couples find themselves craving stimulation from the people around them. But what if they don't like the people around them? Rather than eating meals in silence or making polite, inane conversation, why not take a honeymoon with a couple you like?

We know, it's nothing like you've been told over the years, but would you rather adhere to tradition or actually have fun on your honeymoon? Some couples are choosing the latter and are booking honeymoon couples retreats.

There are many advantages of taking a honeymoon with people whose company you enjoy. For starters, you will always have someone to talk to during mealtime or to do activities with. Let's face it, some honeymoon activities cater to the guys, like deep sea fishing, while others are more popular with the gals, like spa visits. Bringing along another couple will give you the option of enjoying yourselves while you are apart, which is an important part of any marriage.

While honeymooning with friends is rare the first time around, it is growing ever more popular for couples who plan a second honeymoon. Taking a romantic vacation with another couple ensures that everyone will have a good time, regardless of itinerary.

Before you book your romantic getaway, consider sharing the fun by bringing along a few close friends or family members.
