Aruba is located in the Southern Caribbean, and is the smallest of a group of three islands known as the ABC Islands (ABC are the initials for "Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao"). As a travel destination, it is the most popular of the three islands. The fantastic beaches and fantastic resorts (including a number of all-inclusive choices) are naturally a big draw for travelers, but what sets Aruba apart from many other island paradises is its weather. Aruba has some of the best weather in the Caribbean. It is located outside of the Hurricane Belt, which means travelers there have much less worrying when they book a vacation during the hurricane season. Also, Aruba has a desert climate, which means it gets very little rainfall, and a whole lot of sunshine. This is one of the island's most appealing features for last minute vacations, since you can rely on the weather being good. Of course, it does rain sometimes. Rainy season is between October and December, but even then precipitation is minimal. Aside from the rare exceptions, any rain is in the form of passing showers. Average rainfall is typically between 20 and 25 inches for the year. The desert climate also gives Aruba's landscape a few unique floral features, including the famous Divi trees and cacti. These features have made Aruba a popular choice for travelers who have a sense of adventure and also enjoy eco-excursions. Jeep safaris into the desert landscape of the island's interior are a popular way to spend a day. Other diversions include snorkeling, windsurfing and other water sports. You can also elect to spend some time lounging on the sand, soaking in the sun, and enjoying the pleasure of simple, guiltless relaxation. Aruba appeals to a wide variety of travelers. There are many resorts that are perfect for families, and many of these family-friendly hotels offer promotions that let kids stay free (and eat free too, at certain all-inclusive resorts). Couples will find that Aruba is a very romantic destination. In fact, it ranks as one of the most popular honeymoon destinations in the world, right alongside Hawaii, Cancun, Tahiti and Jamaica. Though there is a good selection of all-inclusive resorts to choose from, there are also plenty of resorts that are not all-inclusive, which is often a better option for travelers who like to venture out and explore the local shopping, dining and attractions. The national currency is the florin, which has a favorable exchange rate with the U.S. dollar (which are also widely accepted on the island).
