The Ritz-Carlton revolutionized hospitality in America by creating luxury in a hotel setting. The company provides a place with a warm, relaxed, yet refined ambience, where genuine care and comfort of guests is its greatest mission.
The prestigious luxury brand was established by Cesar Ritz. The Swiss-born entrepreneur opened The Paris Ritz in 1898 and The Carlton hotel in London shortly thereafter. The unparalleled level of luxury and service at these properties made him known as "the king of hoteliers and hotelier to kings," while his name entered the lexicon as a synonym for elegance and class.
American businessman Albert Keller purchased the name "Ritz-Carlton" and opened The Ritz-Carlton, Boston in 1927, which became the original location of the famed franchise. It single-handedly redefined the US luxury hotel experience and made history by introducing a number of American firsts, such as private baths in guest rooms, formally attired staff, and gourmet cuisine.
The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company was formed in 1983 and has expanded to include about 70 luxury hotels in dozens of countries worldwide.
