Caribbean 101: Cayman Islands

Three islands in the western Caribbean Sea, the Caymans are world-famous for their beautiful beaches and unique flora and fauna. From Grand Cayman’s glorious Seven Mile Beach to Little Cayman – home to more iguanas than humans – to the dive sites of Cayman Brac, these islands are the perfect escape from the nonstop grind. Relax in the calm, crystalline water; explore the reefs and their unique ecosystems; get up close and personal with friendly stingrays; or just relax with the island way of life.

The Caymans are home to more boutique hotels than sprawling all-inclusive resorts. Grand Cayman in particular boasts the city of George Town, with an exciting waterfront and museums, restaurants, and more. Take a deep breath and enjoy this paradise.

Best Beaches for…

Everyone: If you’re visiting Grand Cayman, you can’t miss Seven Mile Beach – and we mean that quite literally; it’s impossible to miss this stretch of the island’s west coast, where most of its luxury hotels are located. The beach is public, though, so visitors can walk its entire length, stopping at shops and restaurants along the way. It’s a picture-perfect, pristine beach – not to be missed!

Adventurers: Off the coast of Little Cayman lies untouched Owen Island, an immaculate eleven acres reached only by boat, most often by kayak or stand-up paddleboard. The islet is home to no buildings, houses, or indeed humans, making it the perfect place to hide out for a day while still being back at your hotel in time for an indulgent dinner.

Families: Don’t let Rum Point’s name fool you; this beach on the north coast of Grand Cayman is packed with family-friendly fun. Enjoy a carefree swim in the warm, clear water or enjoy exciting watersports! There’s great snorkeling, and when it’s time for lunch, grab a bite at the Wreck Bar and Grill. Of course, this is where the mudslide was invented, so no one will blame you if the adults take the opportunity to indulge in a favorite cocktail.
