Mexico is home to a variety of exciting vacation destinations such as Puerto Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit, Acapulco, Los Cabos, and the island of Cozumel. Riviera Maya shares a few common features with these destinations, such as stunning beaches, blue ocean waters, and amazing resorts. However, some of the best things about Riviera Maya are the aspects that set it apart from other Mexican destinations.

The region is incredibly lush, covered in dense jungles that are home to a thriving ecosystem of flora and fauna. This makes Riviera Maya a favorite among nature lovers and those who enjoy adventure sports and activities like hiking, kayaking, zip-lining and more.

Mayan ruins are one of the most popular sightseeing attractions in the southern regions of Mexico, and in the northern parts of Central America as well—Belize boasts some incredible archeological sites. Sights like Chichen Itza and Tulum top the must-see lists of many travelers. Once part of the vast Mayan empire that ruled the region in the pre-Columbus days, the cities have crumbled with time, been rediscovered and restored by archeologists so that the ambitious and brilliant architecture of the Mayans can once again be appreciated and marveled. No other destination in Mexico puts travelers closer to these sights than the Riviera Maya.

The best place to stay in Riviera Maya is an all-inclusive resort. There are many all-inclusive resorts to choose from in Riviera Maya. One of the best for singles is Secrets Silversands, an adults only retreat that is nestled in a natural inlet along a beach in the town of Puerto Aventuras. The mood here is serene and sophisticated.

All accommodations have balconies or patios, and Jacuzzis. There are eight restaurants total, seven of them a la carte. Bars, nightly shows, themed parties and a disco provide plenty of opportunities to have fun with friends as well as make some new ones. The beach invites sunbathing, swimming and kayaking. There are also several pools. This resort is a particular favorite for spa lovers, with an elaborate spa that boasts 17 massage rooms, massages overlooking the ocean, a fully equipped gym as well as a hydrotherapy area with steam rooms, a sauna, a whirlpool, hydro-massage and spa showers.

The winter months are a fantastic time to travel to Riviera Maya. With average daily temperatures in the 80s (sometimes higher if you catch a particularly hot day), be sure to pack sunscreen. Things cool down at night, which makes it more comfortable if you're dressing up for dinner, or want to enjoy a nighttime soak in the Jacuzzi.
