Take a Closer Look at Los Cabos

Head out west and explore the Pacific wonders of Mexico in captivating Los Cabos. Vibrant culture, thrilling nightlife, and exhilarating experiences keep visitors and creatures alike flocking to Baja California Sur every year. Take a peek at what makes this southern point so popular.

Los Cabos stirs images of mega resorts, spas, and sparkling waters lapping against the sand in the dry Mexico heat. While beaches are a big draw for most coastal havens, this seaside region of Baja California Sur draws visitors for a lot more than splashing in the waves, especially since most beaches are un-swimmable. But that doesn’t deter locals and foreigners from flocking to this active municipality. From the lively streets of Cabo San Lucas to the colonial charm of San Jose del Cabo, and the lively hotels in-between, Los Cabos has caught and kept the attention of millions of travelers every year. Meet where the desert reconciles with the sea, and see another side of an oceanfront excursion.

Cabo San Lucas or San Jose del Cabo?

Why not both? The tip of this peninsula is the talk of Mexico. Although different in atmosphere, these two towns are definitely worth a day or two of exploring. And with only a quick 30-minute ride down Carretera Federal 1 between them, time is on your side.

Shopping around Cabo San Lucas Marina

Cabo San Lucas gathers the best of the modern world for a happening haven fit for partiers, shopaholics, and anyone in the now. The nightclubs here are famous among celebrities and common folk alike. Sammy Hager’s Cabo Wabo has been rockin’ and rollin’ with live music from superstar acts since 1990, and rags meets riches at the popular El Squid Roe. Need some gifts to bring home or something special for yourself? Name brands and artisan boutiques are in no short supply here. Stroll down Luxury Avenue to get your label fix from lavish brands like Fendi, Cartier, and Burberry. If handmade treasures and authentic wears are more your style, hit the streets surrounding the Marina and uncover hidden gems full of jewelry, clothing, art, and pottery. Before you leave, a tequila tasting is a must, and there’s no better place to sample than Pancho’s, home of the largest tequila selection.

Mission church in San Jose del Cabo dating back to the 1700s

San Jose del Cabo is the laid-back mild-child of Los Cabos. While not as rowdy, this quaint town has more of an authentic feel with cobblestone streets and Spanish-colonial architecture. Step back in time and visit the mission church that dates back to the 1700’s for a striking example of Mexico’s past. Jaunt around town among colorful adobe houses that have been converted into family-owned restaurants and vibrant art galleries. The seafood here is some of the freshest you’ll ever have. Wash it down with a margarita and you’ll be ready for a siesta on the beach. Head back at night for conversing with fellow travelers and locals paired with ice cold cervezas.

Somewhere on the Sea of Cortes

While swimming out into the surf isn’t always an option from the beaches, the ocean is an essential part of daily activity.

Marlin Fishing

Sport fishing attracts enthusiasts from all over the world. Bisbee’s Black and Blue Marlin Tournament will fatten your wallet if you happen to win any of the events, courtesy of having the highest payout for fishing competitions in the world.

Winter in Los Cabos lures the area’s “largest” crowds. Humpback, Blue, and Grey whales migrate south from Alaska for their very own warm getaway. These magnificent giants put on a playful show for nature enthusiasts, who can hop aboard water vessels of every size to join in on the action.

The Sea of Cortes is heaven in water for scuba divers. The combining California and Panamic currents create a feeding ground full of plankton, attracting whale sharks, rays, sea lions, and hammerhead sharks. Experienced divers can head out with trusted dive crews or newbies can work towards their certification.

Land Ho!

The rugged topography mixed with the dry heat of the desert has created a natural playground among cacti, mountains, and rock formations. The most famous of the former being the Arch of Los Cabos, or as the locals call it, El Arco. While this iconic monument can be seen in the distance from most points in Cabo San Lucas, other land lover activities will have sights just as captivating.

The flat green plats surrounding the resorts may look like mirages from a distance. Golf reigns supreme as a favorite pastime in these parts. And with little to no humidity, players won’t feel like they’re swimming while taking a backswing.

Embrace your inner cowboy and hop on the popular Horseback Ride to Migrino tour. You’ll head from the ranch to Margino Beach for some trotting on the sand and relaxing photo ops. Take in a different view on the route home as you safely ride down a mountain.

For thrill seekers searching for a faster pace, hit the trails on an ATV. Roll over mountains and accelerate down the coast with the glistening Sea of Cortes as your other unofficial guide. Race through the desert to finish the momentous day.
